March lily

The March Lily, (also known as “Naked Ladies, due to their bare stems”) gets its name due to the fact that it normally flowers in the Western Cape during March, in some areas it could start flowering as early as the end of February and in extreme cases has been known to flower as late as April. Once the plant has finish flowering the leaves will die off and the bulb will remain dormant until the next year. The technical name is Amaryllis Belladonna, the plant grows from a bulb but can easily be propagated by seed.

The pale pink blossoms are exquisite and can be seen everywhere in the wild.
