This year’s Annual Gathering of Members of BirdLife South Africa “Flock 2013”
offers a spectacular opportunity on a cruise in the Atlantic Ocean as they showcase
and celebrate their work, with emphasis on the Seabird Division and the Albatross Task Force. It promises to be one of the best Flocks ever and definitely should not be missed.
BirdLife South Africa has negotiated special rates for this cruise. In addition to the AGM and Gala Dinner, birders can look forward to:
A seabird ID course
Expert guides, on watch “dawn to dusk”, to help with seabird identification and alert everyone to any special seabirds that we might encounter
Photography workshop, with an emphasis on seabirds
Talks on marine biodiversity and conservation Conservation updates from the Albatross Task Force The Gill Memorial Medal presentation
4 meals a day
All the usual onboard entertainment and activities
There will be a selection of shore-based tours at Walvis Bay including:
An excursion to the dunes for some range restricted species – Dune Lark, Gray’s Lark , etc. Spectacular shorebird and wader watching at the famous Walvis Bay saltpans
A visit to the town of Swakopmund
A huge diversity of seabirds, including albatrosses, petrels, skuas, etc. can be expected. Who knows what ‘specials’ might also turn up?
Not to mention that the MSC Opera that we will be travelling on is a luxury passenger liner. We see this as a trip of a lifetime at these special rates.
Hope to meet you onboard and will report back with pictures of our adventure next year.
