Since watching the movie Clue, with all the quirky characters and dark plots, I have been hooked on murder mysteries. I have probably read and watched all the Agatha Christy novels and series and still love that thrill of trying to guess who the murderer could be. Just when you think all the clues point to one character, they get wiped out and ruin all the carefully thought out reasons you made as to why they were the blackguard who had done the dastardly deed. All part of the fun.

So what a delight when I discovered that the Winchester Mansions in Sea Point Cape Town are about to have a murder mystery evening on the 2nd November 2012. In their own words, “Join us at Harveys for a nightmarish evening filled with apparitions, dark family secrets and dreadful deceit. This murder mystery dinner draws its inspiration from the classic horror and thriller movie genre.” I think that says a lot about what to expect from the evening.

The other aspect of the evening is the quirky menu for the evening which I am listing here:

Jack in a Blender
Pumpkin and orange soup with a Jack-o-Lantern Crostini

“Texas Chainsaw Mackerel”
Pan fried Kingklip set on beetroot risotto with horseradish sauce

“Little Chop of Horrors”
Zombie Carved Roasted Sirloin
with summer vegetables, potato gratin
and peppered mushroom sauce

Buffalo Bill
Smoked Buffalo Mozzarella
served with basil-flavoured potato mash

Belgian Chocolate Mousse Spider

“Grave Robbers”
Baked Chocolate Brownie Tombstone

The whole evening is at a cost of R295 per person and when making your booking you are advised that the evening is planned around tables of eight people and that you will be sent details of your character for the evening.

I am so looking forward to the evening and will give feedback after the dinner.

Let me know if you will be going and give your feedback after the dinner.
